I like solving problems. Ever since I went freelance back in 2012, i’ve had more time available to be a part of different types of projects and businesses.
And now, i’ve been able to help create and market, sound effects kits geared towards modern video producers and app developers.
It’s called MotionSound.io and it’s currently live.
This project started a year ago with a conversation between myself and the team at Impossible Acoustic. I told them how I struggled with finding good sound effects from project to project.
I told them that many of my smaller clients usually had only $1,000 for sound design on a project (many times much less). Without the proper budget for bringing in a Sound Designer, I was left to do it myself.
The big problem with that is, the lack of a sound library I could draw from.
Existing Sound Libraries
Now, it’s fair to note that there are many existing sound libraries available for purchase, but often at very high prices.
Sound design was not my main work, so it seemed crazy to pay thousands of dollars for a high-end library.
On the other end of the spectrum you can find cheap, individual sound effects, but you have to be willing to sift through an archive to find what you need.
I wanted something middle of the road, high quality and geared towards abstract concepts I could use over and over. I wanted at least 2K sounds, but didn’t want to spend more than $400 on it.
Let’s do it!
The team at Impossible Acoustic told me that my desire wasn’t that unique and they’ve had many conversations about this very type of product.
So we decided, to build it and market it.
At first we thought it wouldn’t take more than 3 months to put together and market. We were wrong.
After a year of testing, revisions, designing and recording, MotionSound was ready for the public.
The Product Is Amazing
I’m obviously biased here, but I still think it’s true. I have personally used the sound library on a number of internal-corporate videos and made my money back ($379 for full kit) 10X over already.
Having over 2100 sounds to browse through has made sound design a much quicker and seamless part of my production process.
Using original sound concepts and matching them with music tracks has given me a quick path to more rich and dynamic audio tracks for my video.
I’m blown away by the work that Impossible Acoustic did in putting these sounds together, and i’m amazed at how useful these concepts are for a range of videos.
This side project has been a joy to take part in and i’m proud to have my name (partly) on this product. This is a product that I am using constantly, for my clients and the value for me is amazing.
